My first remembrance of fooling around in photography was when I was about 12 years old. Two years later I evicted my father from his smoked sausage cellar and this became my darkroom. 3ft x 6ft x6ft. No room for an enlarger but it didn't matter. Didn't know how to use one and didn't have the money to buy one. Just simple contact printing of the guys and girls I hung out with down on the corner. I got married at twenty-one after a hitch in the army and went to work as a machinist apprentice at the Pennsylvania railroad. Two years later a back injury caused me to give up this job and look for lighter work. DuPont was building their Chestnut Run site and I was successful in fooling them into thinking I knew something about photography. Knowing I had to learn something fast I first joined the Suburban Camera Club and a year later the Delaware Camera Club. That was 43 years ago and I have enjoyed every moment of being a member since. The Club educated me, made it possible to feed me and my family and now in retirement, enjoy the benefits the Club and photography has given me. I will never be able to repay this debt but I'm going to try.
