Portrait Of ...
Who is that baldheaded guy
more-or-less on the side lines of the Club meetings? He is known as Quentin,
Quent or Whit by family and friends. Quent was first exposed to photography
in his crib. His father was an amateur photographer nut beginning sometime
before 1906. His camera was wooden, the emulsion was on 4x6 glass plates
and it had a fast F64 lens. He graduated to an 8x10 with wooden tripod,
which he sold during WWII. Quent was really at a loss for words when he
learned of the sale in 1945; almost as heart broken as when he found out
that his mom had sold her 1932 Model "B" Ford! In 1975 after 25½ years
of Navy life and seven years with Boeing, Quent chose to get serious about
photography school (Antonelli’s) in the Philadelphia area. With three
children in college, and a wife at home, staying in the area was an easy
choice. After completing a two-year photography course, collecting an
assortment of medium format, 4x5 view camera, plus studio, lab equipment
and portable lighting equipment, it came to pass that teaching photography
was a suitable challenge. The last interesting photography employment
was two years in the Berry and Homer photographic laboratory. Over the years, Quent has served as DCC President and WIEP Chairman. Today, the joy of playing with photography continues as a member of The Delaware Photographic Society. |
