President's Message
Bob Coffey
The 69th WIEP is now history and the Delaware Photographic Society can
chalk up another successful salon to its credit. As always, many of our
members were involved spending countless hours doing myriad tasks to make
it happen. Like so many endeavors, what you get out of it depends on what
you put into it. One of the many benefits is the camaraderie that develops
in working with fellow members. Viewing all the framed prints on display
and watching the slide presentations carefully choreographed to music
is always impressive and it is certainly gratifying that our organization
has the expertise to organize this event year after year. Also, through
the years, we have developed a global following of outstanding photographers
who submit their best images to one of the most grueling judging standards.
The result is a world class photographic exhibition that showcases our
efforts. One new member indicated that the WIEP is how he first learned
of the DPS. Everyone deserves a big round of applause and a pat on the
back for carrying on a fine tradition. Take a big sigh of relief that
it is over before the planning begins for next yearís 70th WIEP.
As announced last month, we will have an election on Slide Night, April
8, 2002. The first vote will be to modify the Constitution. It covers
the redefinition of four of the elective offices to match the current
practice. Essentially, the rest of the revision pertains to grammatical
and formatting improvements that have no effect on the content. I will
make the revised constitution available via the internet as well as printed
copies at the meeting for those who are interested in delving into the
details.
Then, there will be a general election of officers for next year. The
slate of nominees can be found on page 9. For most, it will be their second
year in office and all have agreed to serve.
Finally, on behalf of the DE Photographic Society, I wish to thank Motiva
Enterprises, LLC for their generous donation to the 69th WIEP.
