This season, we’re planning a field trip most every month of the season! These trips are a fantastic chance to get out, take some photos with fellow photographers, and maybe even ask experienced members about camera settings or composition. It’s a wonderful way to connect with members outside of our regular meetings.

Our first trip is to the Revolutionary War reenactment of the Battle at Chadds Ford. I’ve been there a few times, and there are always tons of photo opportunities. The reenactors are dressed in period clothing and recreate life as it was back in 1777. You can wander around and watch people making crafts like blacksmithing and wood carving, some cooking over a fire, and others marching and practicing drills.

There are two battle reenactments happening during the day: one at 11:30 a.m. and another at 3:30 p.m. We’re planning to go for the afternoon battle. The sun will be lower, which means better lighting, and the second battle tends to be less crowded. Finding parking and meeting up can be a bit of a challenge with so many people attending, but this trip is more about capturing some amazing photos than mingling with members. I’d suggest signing up for this trip, and I’ll send out a list of those who signed up, including their location. If you know someone who lives nearby, reach out to them to see if they’d like to carpool.

I’m planning to arrive around 1:30 p.m., which should allow plenty of time to wander around the camp and take some photos. If you’re hoping to snag a great spot for photographing the battle, I’d recommend heading to the battlefield around 3 p.m. Hopefully we’ll cross paths while we’re there.
